Laufey

I googled Laufey because a friend said I might be into her music. She’s ok. I think with most Scandinavian singer-songwriters, I can appreciate the quality of their art but can never quite connect with it. The exception being Ace of Bass, of course, but it wouldn’t be fair to Laufey to turn a post about her into praise for Ace of Bass, who after all may be nazis.
Ok so I’m finally listening to Laufey now. She’s ok. After my parents got divorced, my dad started dating a cocktail waitress from Baltimore who was 19 years his junior.
Digression–how young is too young? She was 27 and he was 46. I think he looked older than 46, but I was 17 at the time, and that’s neither here nor there. I don’t think I would date a 27 year old but it’s old enough that I’m not sure I’d consider someone that age completely off-limits either. But I’m still on the green side of 45. So we’ll chalk it down to a matter of judgement. Anyway I judge that she was too young.
Anyway, my dad never really listened to music while I was growing up, but when he met this lady he incorporated into his latent musical tastes the cavalcade of jazzy singer-songwriters in her CD collection. She actually had pretty eclectic musical taste that was not necessarily bad. And you know what, I’m not even going to fault him for listening to her music, because if I’m being honest, if I were to date a 27 year old, getting her youthful music recommendations would probably be a reason why. But at the time I was 17 and listened to noisey guitar rock and found this kind of stuff to be corny easy listening pap, and actually the more I listen to Laufey the more her music sounds like Disney princess movie b-sides. I’m sorry Laufey! You’re a fantastic artist but you just don’t do it for me!
